Electrical appliances and electronics are among the most expensive home contents and the most sensitive to moving: a fridge can lose its compressor, a washing machine can throw its drum, and a TV can crack from the slightest pressure. Here is the device-by-device protection guide before and during the move.

The Refrigerator: The Most Common Moving Casualty

Unplug the fridge at least 24 hours ahead so all ice melts, then clean and dry it so no odors or mold form. Remove glass shelves and drawers and wrap them separately. Secure the door with residue-free tape. The golden rule: always move the fridge standing upright — laying it flat pushes compressor oil into the cooling lines and can ruin it. After arrival, leave it standing unplugged for 3–4 hours before powering it on.

The Washing Machine: Secure the Drum First

The biggest moving risk for a washing machine is its free-moving inner drum — shaking on the road can break the suspension system. The solution: the shipping bolts that came with the machine when you bought it. If you did not keep them, order them from the agent or fill the drum cavity with secured blankets. Drain the machine completely, dry the hoses, roll them up and fix them behind the unit.

TVs: The Most Fragile

Modern LED TVs are extremely thin and crack from negligible pressure on the glass. Best option: the original box with its foam inserts. Alternative: wrap the TV in a cloth cover, then bubble wrap, then heavy-duty cardboard front and back — and always carry it vertically, holding it by the frame not the screen, with nothing placed on top or in front of it.

Air Conditioners: You Need a Technician

AC removal requires an HVAC technician to properly recover the refrigerant and disconnect the copper lines — careless dismantling wastes the gas and damages the lines. Schedule the dismantling and reinstallation technician within your moving plan in advance.

Audio Systems and Home Cinema

Photograph the rear connections before disconnecting to ease reassembly, roll and label each cable separately, and place speakers and amplifiers in boxes padded with bubble wrap.

Ovens and Large Kitchen Appliances

Remove racks and trays and wrap them separately, secure oven doors with tape, and clean appliances of grease completely — grease residue attracts dust and leaves stains during long transport or storage.

One Final General Rule

Appliances are loaded last and unloaded first, and are strapped against the truck wall so they never move and nothing is stacked over them. The Marasi crew is trained to move appliances to these standards — leave it to the professionals and relax.
